About

The Story of Douglas Graeme McCoy

From rugby fields to the boardroom to bestselling books — four decades of reinventing himself, and helping others do the same.

Some people spend a lifetime becoming one thing. Douglas Graeme McCoy has spent his becoming many — and helping others do the same. An Australian author, coach and entrepreneur, Douglas is known to his readers as “The ReCreation King.”

The Early Years

From the Scrum to the Boardroom

Douglas left school at sixteen and was chosen, ahead of more than a thousand applicants, for an apprentice pattern-maker role at Sydney’s Garden Island Dockyards — selected for his drive as much as his skills.

He played first-division rugby league as one of the youngest in the competition, and first-grade rugby union for St George, going on to represent New South Wales.

A Turning Point

A Mentor Who Changed Everything

At twenty-one, in England, Douglas met the late Dr William Tanner — a Los Angeles psychologist and founder of Tanner Thought Dynamics. Studying Tanner’s teachings reshaped how he understood the mind, success and human potential.

After Tanner’s passing, Douglas set out to carry that understanding to the world — the seed of what became the ReCreation method

Douglas teaches that there are only two ways to learn in life: the hard way, through your own painful experience — or the smart way, by learning from the experience of others. His life’s work is to give people the second option: a practical framework for transforming self-image, mindset and results.

The Entrepreneur

Four Decades of Building

In 1984 Douglas founded the Australasian Success Academy, training and recruiting sales and marketing teams. As an entrepreneur he introduced rebound exercising — the Vitalizer mini-trampoline — to Australia and New Zealand, built one of Australia’s largest networks of security franchises, introduced co-operative coupons to the region, and founded Excelsior College.

The Author

A Better Kind of Book

Douglas disliked reading as a child — so he set out to make it engaging. The result was the How Cool series, described as the world’s first books written for both right- and left-brain readers. Today he has authored 14 books and 19 audio programs.

Through his books, audio, coaching and speaking, Douglas helps people across Australia and around the world break through their limits and recreate the lives, careers and businesses they want. His message is simple: setbacks aren’t the end — they’re an invitation to create again.
